Coast FA sent seventeen teams to sunny Savannah this weekend and nine claimed hardware for their effort. “ The first weekend in February means the kickoff to the spring season at the Savannah Cup each year for our teams. It was a great weekend with good competition and plenty of competitive matches. The quality of brackets offered worked well for our teams and a shout out to the Savannah staff for a well-run event. We hit the ground running next weekend with the start of league play “ said Coast Director of Coaching Ross Morgan.
Champions U9 Girls…Coast 16g Red (Click For Image)…Coach Khalil Bouhaddou said “ today I am overwhelmed with pride as we celebrate three consecutive wins and a championship title. We faced a tough Florida Elite team from Jacksonville in the final but the team showed character and determination to secure a 3-0 result. I would like to express my most sincere gratitude to the parents for their unwavering support and commitment as it played an invaluable role in the team’s success. Starting tomorrow we refocus our efforts to ensure that we are well prepared for the challenges ahead.”
Champions U11 Boys…Coast 14 Black (Click For Image) …Coach Zach Brittain said “ stringing together four consecutive wins at a tournament is a difficult task and I am very proud of the boys. We won the semi final in pks and then put in a solid defensive effort to defeat Savannah 2-0 in the final. It was a great way to start the season and I am looking forward to more growth for this team during the spring.”
Finalists U13 Girls…Coast 12g Red (Click For Image) …Coach Wes Durant said “ we finished one point shy of winning our group of five and settled for being finalists this weekend. The girls worked together as a team and combined very well with one another on the field. I am happy with the overall effort from the girls and hope to build on the success from this tournament.”
Finalists U12 Boys…Coast 13 Black (Click For Image) …Coach Rob Bramble said “ the team showed great character and fortitude to play four matches without any subs this weekend. To win three of the four and claim finalist’s hardware took a huge effort from all nine players. I am especially proud of this team for their achievement under less than ideal conditions.”
Finalists U13 Boys…Coast 13 Red (Click For Image) …Coach Mario Benjamin said “ the boys played 11v11 soccer for the first time this weekend and put together four complete matches. Playing up one year presents a few challenges for a team but I feel the experience will pay big dividends down the line. We came up a little short but proud of the boys for earning runner up medals in a group of five teams.”
Finalists U13 Boys…Coast 12 E64 Piedmont (Click For Image) ….Coach Dimitri Leftis said “ we lost to a very good team in the championship match and it was a great learning experience for my boys. We played good soccer all weekend keeping possession very well and the progression of the team is measurable. I am excited for the spring season.”
Finalists U11 Girls…Coast 14g Red (Click For Image) …Coach Q Grate said “ we came into the tournament with a thin roster but fought our way into the final. We scored a goal in the final seconds to advance however we ran out of gas against a very good side from Nassau to settle for finalists. The girls played with a ton of heart and had a great overall weekend.”
Finalist U13 Boys…Coast 12 Black (Click For Image) …Coach Matt Bermejo said “ to lose on the 8th pk in the final is tough. I applaud my boys for their resilience this weekend. Ultimately, we could not grab what we came for but we will use that disappointment to fuel our push forward into the spring.”
Finalist U11 Boys…Coast 14 Red (Click For Image) …Coach Joel Banta said “ boys had a good weekend. We came up a little short in our third match but they put it behind them and were clinical in the final match to claim second place in our group of five. Nice start to the season.”
