Myrtle Beach, S.C. — November 7, 2025 — Coast FA is pleased to announce that the long-awaited expansion of Socastee Park is officially set to begin on Friday, November 14, 2025.
Under the newly signed construction contract, the project will include the addition of two lit soccer fields, two futsal courts, ten pickleball courts, and expanded parking to better serve the growing needs of the community. The estimated timeline for completion is ten to twelve months.
The cleared area near the existing tennis courts will serve as the staging area for construction equipment and will no longer be available for parking once work begins. For safety reasons, Coast FA and Horry County Recreation officials urge everyone to keep children and visitors away from active construction zones.
“I wasn’t entirely sure I’d see this expansion come to fruition in my lifetime, but with our community growing so rapidly, it’s a critical addition,” said Heyward Gulledge, Executive Director of Coast FA. “We’re bursting at the seams with programming for nearly two thousand local kids, ages 3 to 18, and this project will allow us to continue providing quality recreational opportunities.”
Gulledge added that District 6 County Councilman Cam Crawford played an instrumental role in making the project a reality.
“This simply does not happen without Cam’s involvement and perseverance, along with the vision and commitment of the Horry County Recreation Department,” Gulledge said.
Construction updates will be shared as new information becomes available.
