Coast Shines at Pre Season Classic

Coast FA was well represented on the podium at the 4th Annual Coast Pre Season Classic held in beautiful North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Eighty five teams from North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia enjoyed sunny skies and a great facility in the North Myrtle Beach Sports Park. “ Being able to host a pre season event where our players get to sleep in their own beds and play three or four matches is nice for our club. The pre season tournament allows our coaches to see where we stand before league play begins. We take the majority of our young teams to Chapel Hill next weekend and then we are stuck in for the fall season. We think the pre season events are especially valuable to our new teams” said Coast Director of Coaching Ross Morgan.

Coast 13 Red (Click for Image) coached by Robbie Dickinson avenged a loss in pool play to the PISA 13 Hurricanes by defeating them 5-1 to win the championship in U11 1st Division. “My team improved with each half of every match culminating into a championship win. It was truly a total team effort all weekend as we battled the heat and good competition. This was my first tournament with the boys and I am looking forward to a great season. Big thanks to my club for hosting the tournament “ said Coach Dickinson.

Coach Ross Morgan’s Coast 08 Red (Click for Image) also avenged a loss in pool play to win the championship in U16 1st Division against WUFA 08 Premier. “ We knocked the ball around beautifully in the final. When my team plays this brand of football it is fun to watch. Really proud of the boys for getting it done after a long weekend “ said Coach Morgan.

Coast 12 Red (Click for Image) coached by Tim Conklin lost in the championship of the U12 1st Division after posting three consecutive wins in pool play. Coach Conklin said “ What a weekend for the 12 Red ! This group of young men battled but came up just short in the final. Truly a great start to what I am confident will be an incredible year for this group. I truly enjoyed filling in for Coach Dimitri while he was away .”

Coast 15 Red (Click for Image) coached by Jordin Anderson also finished as a finalist in the U9 1st Division. The boys unfortunately had to face a very good FC Bayern side twice over the weekend and could not find a way past them. “ I am proud to say that I am the head coach for the 15 Red team. It was a tough fight in both matches with FC Bayern but we unfortunately came up short. We will continue to learn from these hard lessons and grow from the experience. We hope to see these guys at another event in the near future “ said Coach Anderson.

Coach Joel Banta’s Coast 14 Red (Click for Image) posted three one sided results in pool play but then ran into an old foe in the Red HPJ Boys out of Greensboro in the final. “ We have played this team several times now and the matches are always super competitive. They got the best of us today so we tip our hats to them. Playing matches like this will make my team better in the long run. We look forward to seeing them again in November “ said Coach Banta.
