New! - Coast FA Junior Rec Academy

Qualified Coaching. Strong Competition. Local Play

This program is called the Junior Rec Academy (JRA) and it will function in Georgetown & Horry County. The Junior Rec Academy will be seeded with players through invitation only. Coast FA is initiating program exclusively for players eligible for U8 play only (1st & 2nd Graders for 2019-20 school year).

Boys & Girls Ages:

U8 Co-Ed - 1st & 2nd Grade - Sept 2011 thru Aug 2013

Background and the Why?

This is a new hybrid soccer program and league in terms of coaching, travel and opponents. It is an intermediary program sitting between rec and select soccer. We have created this new level based on feedback from volunteer coaches and parents and believe there is strong interest. It is for the soccer player who has fallen in love with the game at an early age and wants to have more varied experiences in the game within a more committed, but a local training and game structure.

What’s the difference?

These players will be instructed by qualified Coast FA staff coaches at practices and games. The prerequisites of a qualified coach consists of existing playing experience, coaching experience and/or current or pending licensure. The coaches are paid and therefore meet the requirements of skills, knowledge and experience to coach the players in this program.

Players rostered in the Junior Rec Academy are in a standalone category and will not participate in the McDonald’s Soccer League or any state level select play.

Who is it for?

The Junior Rec Academy is available players at all levels of the player development curve. Commitment to learn and improve (work ethic) is the significant element for each player to possess. Once identified, it will be determined that each player is committed to a team focused mentality. We believe an athlete who learns a strong work ethic will always ultimately surpass a naturally gifted athlete who has no dedication to the sport. With the correct nurturing and instruction, we anticipate that some players will exceed other players, previously further along in their development track.

If a player wants to get better - this program is for them

If a player needs to improve their core skills to remain competitive - this program is for them

If a player wants to see how they compare to the competition - this program is for them.

Playing in the Junior Rec Academy does not mean you have to become a high school or select soccer player - there’s still time to make that decision. In the meantime, the JRA will serve as a catalyst for player development and will enable the opportunity for Select Soccer and/or High School Soccer at a later date.

When and Where?

This is actually a NEW program and a NEW league. The inaugural U8 Division will consist of 4 teams with players from along the Grand Strand who want to challenge themselves in practice, games and new experiences, but choose not to presently commit to the highest level of state league select play.

The Game Plan

GT County teams will have two evening practices per week at Stables Park. Horry County teams will have two evening practices per week at Socastee Park. There will be a focus on core technical skills, motor skills and a foundational understanding of the game.
