Players Perspective On Training With U.S. National Under 17 Coach

Six current Coast FA players were selected to participate in a training session Wednesday night ran by current U.S. Under 17 National Team head coach John Hackworth. Twenty six players ran through the two hour session that concentrated on high pressure tactics. Coast DOC Ross Morgan said “ I want to personally thank Kevin Johnson and Carson Porter of the Wilmington Hammerheads for extending an invitation to our players to be a part of Coach Hackworth’s session. This was a great experience for our players and one that they will never forget. The next time they see the U.S. National team on tv it will probably mean a little more to them. Our players learned a lot from the session and it was great to see them interacting and using the information being delivered by Coach Hackworth.” This is what the boys took away from the experience.

Noah Siegel: It was a cool experience to see a different soccer strategy than what we normally do.  Coach expected the players to adapt on their own without being told what to.   I liked how important the tactical part is, and the expectation that the technical aspect of my game is already in place.

Christian Newman: “It was a once in a lifetime experience to be trained by Coach Hackworth.  As a US National coach and former MLS soccer coach, the training he provided helped my game.  He emphasized applying more pressure while defending and playing with more intensity.”

Mathi Ott: “Any opportunity like this is invaluable. I enjoyed listening to a professional coach with such a high soccer IQ. I am looking forward to more experiences like this one.”

Nolan Crawford: “ I was thankful for the opportunity to train with Coach Hackworth. It was a chance to improve and become a better player with high level training.”

Sullivan Hardin: “Today was a very good experience playing under the direction of John Hackworth. The session ran very smooth and the main focus was pressure starting out of the back. Overall it was a good thing for me to be part of and I feel very blessed to receive the offer.”

Mason Sullivan: “I want to thank Coach Hackworth for giving me the opportunity to play as an example for the coaches teachings. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity that I will never forget.”
